Welcome to the world of Goat Milk Soap!

A note about how soap is made- Some large production soap companies use a water base to make their soap and
add a little bit of canned milk in towards the end of the soap making process.  We at The Arizona Goat Milk Soap
Company still use a whole goat milk base, with no water added throughout the process to ensure that your skin
receives as much milk nourishment  as possible.

Milk has been used in cosmetics and therapeutic treatments around the world for many centuries.  In fact one of
Cleopatra's beauty secrets for silky soft skin was milk baths!  Milks' natural soothing and moisturizing qualities
have, over the last several decades, made it a popular ingredient in commercial soaps and cosmetics.

But as commercial soaps may add chemicals and additives that some of us may find undesirable, unnecessary or
irritating for your skin, The Arizona Goat Milk Soap Company brings you a milk based, handmade goat milk soap
with natural ingredients and no additives that aren't necessary to the soap making process.

We invite you to indulge in the luxury of our handmade Goat Milk Soap.  The rich proteins, vitamins and minerals
found in the composition of milk will leave your skin nourished, moisturized and beautifully clean & healthy.  Even
delicate and problematic skin types can trust the natural purity and gentleness of our Goat Milk Soap.

Ingredients for our handmade soap

A brief how to and history of handmade soap
It takes two main ingredients to make soap; lye and fat. When lye combines with a fat, a
chemical interaction hardens the oils, creating a hard bar of soap.  In earlier times when
people made soap in their own homes, they used wood ashes and lard: the ashes were
soaked in water, which leached out lye. Cooking lard with this lye created bar soap. These
original lye soaps were usually unscented and fairly harsh. They were used for scrubbing
laundry and floors and any other thing that needed to be cleaned, as well as being used for
bathing.  Since bar soap requires a lye/fat combination, soap can not be made from milk
alone, other ingredients are essential such as pure lye and natural fats such as vegetable oils
and seed or nut oils.

Why Goat Milk Soap?
Milk based soaps have gained some popularity over the past few decades, largely due to
research on milk that is teaching consumers about the way skin benefits from milk used in
soaps and other skin care products.
Benefits such as-
-Goat Milk soap has lactic acid which helps smooth skin by exfoliation.
-Goat Milk soap contains Vitamins A and D, whose benefits include giving skin strength and
suppleness.
-Goat Milk soap contains Alpha-hydroxy acids which break down the glue that holds dead
skin cells together. Alpha-hydroxy acid is well known for softening and rejuvenating skin,
giving it a more youthful appearance.
-Goat Milk soap has restorative vitamins, minerals and proteins
-Goat Milk soap is gentle, even on very sensitive and delicate skin

Another benefit of goat's milk soap in particular is that goat's milk has the closest ph to
human skin. Our skin has an "acid mantle," a protective shield produced by the skin's own oil
glands, to ensure that the skin's proper pH balance is maintained.  When an alkaline
substance such as commercial soaps come into contact with the skin, the skins own proper
balance is lost. The acid of the skin becomes neutralized, causing the skin to feel dry, tight
and uncomfortable.  Oil glands react to this over-alkalinity by secreting excess sebum or oil
through the pores, to try to re-balance the pH.  This results in oily, pore-clogged skin, when
the excess oil is exposed to air, it hardens and darkens, causing clogged pores and
blackheads, or pores that close up completely which results in pimples. Nearby skin can
become dry, flaky and damaged.  Without a balanced acid mantle, skin is left exposed to the
damaging effects of environmental and bacterial impurities. Correct pH balance helps skin to
remain protected and healthy, so the skin cells can breathe as they should.

Why Our Goat Milk Soap?
Many large production soap makers use a commercial milk (usually canned) into the soap
during the final stages of soap making, the canned milk adds unwanted chemicals and
preservatives.  We use fresh milk, drawn by hand from our own  healthy goats and we leave
the water out, giving our product the largest percentage of nourishing whole, unprocessed
milk in each bar.
